Causes of Acne:

Acne occurs when tiny holes on the surface of the skin, called pores, become clogged.

Each pore is an opening to a follicle, which contains a hair and an oil gland. These oil glands help lubricate the skin and help remove old skin cells. When glands produce too much oil, the pores can become blocked. Dirt, debris, bacteria, and inflammatory cells build up. The blockage is called a plug or comedone. The top of the plug may be whitehead or blackhead. If the plug breaks open, the material inside causes swelling and red bumps to form. If the inflammation is deep in your skin, the pimples may enlarge to form firm, painful cysts present in the lungs.

Acne Diagnosis

The Acne Diagnosis is based on the history and physical examination.

Lesions most commonly develop in areas with the greatest concentration of sebaceous glands. Acne vulgaris may be defined as any disorder of the skin whose initial pathology is the microscopic microcomedo. The microcomedo may evolve into visible blackheads or whiteheads. Subsequently, inflammatory papules, pustules, and nodules may develop. Nodulocystic acne consists of pustular lesions larger than 0.5 cm. The presence of excoriations, post inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and scars should be noted.

Generic Accutane (Isotretinoin): The most important drug for Acne

Accutane (Isotretinoin) is derived from vitamin A. Isotretinoin is an oral retinoid, one that’s taken by mouth rather than applied to the skin. It reduces the amount of oil released by oil glands in your skin, and helps your skin renew itself more quickly. For Acne patients, Accutane has proved to be a genuine miracle drug and it is the most significant advance in acne therapy. Isotretinoin is so dramatically effective against acne because it is the only medicine that effectively fights breakouts. It reduces the size of sebaceous glands, which dramatically curtails sebum production. It decreases the cellular buildup that leads to comedones in sebaceous follicles. It massacres the population of acnes bacteria and it controls inflammation.

What you should avoid while taking Accutane (Isotretinoin)?

Do not give blood to anybody while you are on Accutane medication. Avoid sunlight and ultraviolet lights as much as possible. . Accutane may make your skin more sensitive to light. . Do not share Accutane with other people. .

ny myths about acne have been shown up, but people are still ignorant of them.

First, there is a myth about greasy foods causing acne. This is probably the most popular myth and has been proven completely untrue. Chocolate has also been attributed to causing acne. Once again, this is completely false. The only way such foods may cause an outbreak is if you happen to be allergic to them, in which case you shouldn?t be eating them anyway.

2nd, acne is caused because of poor cleansing habits. Your cleansing regime has nothing to do with acne. It is good to have a cleansing regime, but the cause of acne is the bacteria under the skin, not on top. The best treatments are the ones that work from inside, not vice versa.

The third myth is that stress causes acne outbreaks. This only happens rarely in people that are already prone to outbreaks. The average person, adult or teen, exposed to regular, everyday stress is not necessarily going to get acne.

Fourth, another myth states that acne is not a serious problem and does not need to be treated. While this may appear to be true on the surface, acne is more than just a cosmetic issue. Acne left untreated can leave serious scarring on one?s face, affecting the way they look for the rest of their life.

If you think about a celebrity that has acne scars, you will probably remember that it was the first thing you noticed when you first saw them, and also the first thing you remember when you recall their face. Yes, acne can cause self-esteem and confidence issues in a big way.

Lastly, the myth that you cannot do anything about acne. Children suffering from acne would go untreated, because for years their parents were under the impression that it was a part of puberty and that they had to go through it. Little did they know that it could have long term effects. Luckily today, there are many acne products that are being marketed that have proved to work effectively.

Types Of Acne – Acne Types And Characteristics

Article by Suzanna Du

When you think of acne, pimples and zits are what often come to mind. Acne starts when trapped oil and dead cells block your pore ducts and mix with bacteria. But the fact is, acne can come in many different forms even though they all start the same way. Here’s a look at the different types of acne.

NON INFLAMMATORY ACNE

Closed comedo – they form when the pore is completely blocked with sebum, bacteria and dead skin cells. The blocked follicle usually stays beneath the skin surface and will usually appear on the surface of the skin as small whitish bumps. This is commonly known as white heads because it can be inflamed with a white center.Open comedo – these form when a partially blocked pore pushes through the skin’s surface. They’re known as black heads because of the dark color. This isn’t due to dirt but is a result of melanin (skin pigment) reacting with oxygen.

INFLAMMATORY ACNE

Papule – this is the mildest form of inflammatory acne. A papule will appear on the skin as a small, firm pink bump. Papules don’t have a head and don’t contain any pus. They are considered an intermediary step between non inflammatory and inflammatory acne.Postule – postules are small round bumps that are similar to white heads but the difference is that they are clearly inflamed and contain pus. They appear red at the bas and can have a whitish or yellowish center. Postules don’t contain much bacteria. The inflammation is caused by chemical irritation from sebum components like fatty free acids.Nodule – nodules are much larger, deeply seated acne spots which can be quite painful. They lie under the skin’s surface and can sometimes last for months. If you develop nodules, it’s best to seek medical attention.Cysts – cysts can look similar to nodules, but the main difference is that they’re filled with pus and are 5mm in diameter or bigger. These are formed when a comedo spills it’s contents over the surrounding skin and the immune system responds by producing pus. Also seek medical attention for this type of acne.

RARE AND SEVERE TYPES OF ACNE

There are many other types of acne that most people won’t have to experience. This is a good thing because the symptoms can be quite extreme. These are acne conglobata, acne fulminans, pyoderma faciale and gram-negative folliculitus. Since these are uncommon forms of acne, rather than discuss them here, you should not hesitate to seek medical advice if you are suffering from these extreme conditions.

Knowing about the different acne types and characteristics can greatly benefit you in your search for an acne cure. It’s important to understand what these types of acne mean. That way, you will have better chances of finding successful treatment methods.
